Improve Employee Performance Idea 107 – March 12, 2010: Highlight Personal Benefits of Better Time Management

If you have employees who don’t meet deadlines, they are probably complaining about feeling frustrated, irritated, etc.  The next time you get such complaints, use this as an opportunity to explain the connection between better time management practices you want the employee to use and less frustration or irritation the employee feels.  In other words, you might say things like:

If you change the way you input data, this might allow you to feel less stressed and help with the deadlines.

If you reprioritize your tasks, you might get more done and not feel so irritated.

KEY REMINDER:  To improve employee performance, you have to conduct effective performance discussions, give effective performance feedback, reinforce employee performance, and use effective performance phrases to write effective performance appraisals.
